چکیده

We fabricated an analog integrated circuit (IC) that implements the Lotka–Volterra (LV) chaotic oscillator presented by Mimura and Kan-on [1986]. The LV system describes periodic or chaotic behaviors in prey–predator systems in simple mathematical form, and is suitable for analog IC implementation [Asai et al., 2003]. The proposed circuit consists of a small number of metaloxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOS FETs) operating in their subthreshold region. A new scaling factor of system variables, which was not discussed in [Asai et al., 2003], is also introduced for quantitative studies of designing practical hardware LV systems.

A subthreshold MOS neuron circuit based on the Volterra system

We present an analog neuron circuit consisting of a small number of metal-oxide semiconductor (MOS) devices operating in their subthreshold region. The dynamics of the circuit were designed to be equivalent to the well-known Volterra system to facilitate developing the circuit for a particular application. We show that a simple nonlinear transformation of system variables in the Volterra system...

Noise shaping pulse - density modulation in inhibitory neural networks with subthreshold VLSI neuron circuits

An inhibitory network model that performs noise-shaping pulse-density modulation [1] was implemented with subthreshold analog MOS circuits, aiming at the development of ultralow-power Σ∆-type AD converters. Through circuit simulations, we evaluate the effects of the noise shaping produced by the network circuit. Keywords—VLSI, pulse density modulation, noise shaping, chaotic neural networks 1 M...

An analog MOS circuit is proposed for implementing a Lotka–Volterra (LV) competitive neural network which produces winners-shareall solutions. The solutions give multiple winners receiving large inputs and are particularly useful for selecting a set of inputs through ‘‘decision by majority’’. We show that the LV network can easily be implemented using subthreshold MOS transistors. Results of ex...

Analog integrated circuits for the Lotka-Volterra competitive neural networks

A subthreshold MOS integrated circuit (IC) is designed and fabricated for implementing a competitive neural network of the Lotka-Volterra (LV) type which is derived from conventional membrane dynamics of neurons and is used for the selection of external inputs. The steady-state solutions to the LV equation can be classified into three types, each of which represents qualitatively different sele...
